The Friction Zone

There’s a term in motorcycle riding called the friction zone. The friction zone is the balance of using the clutch and throttle when starting and stopping.  It’s a skill that eventually is very automatic but it is good to practice once in a while.  One day while I was riding, I came upon some unexpected road construction. Traffic was either stopped completely or barely moving. On a motorcycle, that can be tiring for the hand that operates the clutch.  You are constantly slowly letting the clutch out or slowly pulling it in and sometimes just holding it.  At first I felt annoyed at the slow pace and my clutch hand getting tired. But then I decided to take advantage of this situation and practice my friction zone skills.  It turned out to be a very good practice session and I was proud of myself for being able to do such a good job!
